Abortion advocates claim to be all about women’s health, with organizations like Planned Parenthood touting themselves as providing comprehensive “women’s healthcare.” The image painted is of a compassionate woman in a lab coat standing in a pristine clinic. However, the stark, unsettling truth lurking behind this façade tells a different tale.

A closer examination reveals a different reality—one that raises questions about the safety of abortion procedures and the motives of abortion providers. In this article, we explore instances where abortion practices have jeopardized women’s lives and delve into the alarming issues surrounding abortion clinics.

The Case of Cree Erwin

Cree Erwin, a 24-year-old woman from Battle Creek, Michigan, lost her life just three days after undergoing an abortion at a Planned Parenthood facility in Kalamazoo. The circumstances surrounding her death prompted a complaint from Operation Rescue against the Kalamazoo Planned Parenthood, seeking the revocation of its facility license.

The Battle Creek Police Department is actively conducting a homicide investigation, awaiting the release of Cree Erwin’s autopsy report, a process that may extend for weeks or months. “If Cree Erwin had not visited the Kalamazoo Planned Parenthood for an abortion, she would be alive today. I urge the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs not to turn a blind eye to the pattern of abuses we are seeing at Planned Parenthood facilities. The Kalamazoo Planned Parenthood is not safe and must be shut down to protect other women from ending up on a slab in the morgue,” said Cheryl Sullenger, Senior Vice President of Operation Rescue.

The Practices of Kermit Barron Gosnell

The case of Philadelphia physician Kermit Barron Gosnell shocked the nation in 2011. Charged with murder and other offenses, Gosnell reportedly caused the death of a female patient and killed seven viable babies in illegal, late-term abortions. Operating under the name Women’s Medical Society, this facility primarily served low-income minority women for an extended period.

The grim conditions of the now-closed abortion clinic were revealed, depicting a disturbing scene discovered during a search conducted by authorities the previous year. The investigation uncovered bags and bottles containing aborted fetuses scattered throughout the building, with jars holding severed baby feet lining a shelf. The furniture and equipment in the clinic were blood-stained, dusty, and broken. Additionally, the statement detailed the charges faced by Kermit Barron Gosnell, including infanticide, conspiracy, abortion at 24 or more weeks of pregnancy, corpse abuse, theft, corruption of minors, solicitation, and other related offenses. Seven other employees at the clinic were also charged, according to this statement

The Reality of the Abortion Pill

The abortion pill, mifepristone, has been linked to numerous health issues and deaths since its FDA approval in the year 2000. With an estimated 5.6 million preborn children killed by this drug, the FDA reports 28 maternal deaths and has received over 4,000 reports of adverse medical events associated with mifepristone as of June 30, 2022.

Dr. Kathi Aultman, a former abortionist, emphasizes the risks and complications associated with the abortion pill, citing cases of severe hemorrhage, excruciating abdominal pain, and life-threatening infections. She wrote in USA Today,  “As a gynecologist on call in the emergency room, I personally treated women experiencing severe complications, including life-threatening hemorrhage and infection from abortions, because no one at the abortion clinic had admitting privileges. No abortion clinic personnel ever called to give me information on a patient they were sending to the ER. This is not a safe way to practice medicine.”

Inadequate Reporting and Oversight

The FDA’s Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) reveals 24 maternal deaths between 2000 and 2018, alongside over 1,000 hospitalizations and 4,195 total adverse events related to the abortion pill.

Unfortunately, in 2016, the FDA ceased the mandatory reporting of adverse effects, restricting the requirement solely to deaths. This indicates that the actual number of adverse events are likely considerably higher than what has been reported.

From tragic cases like Cree Erwin’s to the appalling practices of Kermit Barron Gosnell to the alarming statistics surrounding the abortion pill, it is evident that the narrative of abortion providers prioritizing women’s health is, at best, questionable.
