Prayer + Fasting Initiative For Choices
One of the most powerful tools God has given us is prayer. Prayers have powerfully worked throughout the Old and New Testaments to bring about God’s will, continuing to this day.
What is Prayer?
In simple terms, prayer is wholeheartedly turning your focus to God. You can seek Him with your spirit, soul, and body. Prayer can be in conversation, joyful praise, shouts, and in silent reverence or with a heavy broken heart. Prayer means we turn, acknowledge God, and He is faithful to listen.

What is Prayer + Fasting?

Prayer and Fasting is a step into a deeper, more intimate relationship with God. It crosses from the physical world into the spiritual world. It demonstrates the depth of your desire and shows that you are serious enough to pay a price for your request.
Prayer is a connection point between God and mankind. Jesus taught His disciples to pray by example and by role modeling His prayers before the Father. “Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples” Luke 11:1.
We see how vital it is in moving the impossible into the completely possible. He hears the church and is ever faithful! If we seek God’s face, the Father will open doors to change and transform lives – starting with ours! “It shall come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear” Isaiah 65:24.

How We Pray And Fast Personally

Understand the Purpose.
Is it for spiritual renewal, God’s guidance, wisdom, or healing? Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in this. It will help you pray more specifically and strategically.

Determine How You Will Fast.
Jesus implies that all of His followers should fast in Matt. 6:17-18. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to show you how long to fast for (a meal, a day, a week – start slow and build up) and what type of fast to undertake (water only, water and juices, or physical/social activities).

Prepare Yourself Spiritually.
Seek forgiveness from others and ask God to forgive your sins. Isaiah 59:2 says, “But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.” If we have unconfessed sin in our lives, our prayers may not be answered.

Prepare Yourself Physically.
Do not rush into your fast. Consider eating smaller meals or raw fruits and vegetables before starting your fast.

Begin Your Fast.
The Bible says: “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you” James 4:8a. Fasting is setting aside our personal pleasures and pursuits to seek the face of God. It is part of your personal resolve to say “I’m putting You first God and seeking you in a special way.” Devote time during your fast to prayer and God’s Word.

Final Thoughts.
Prayer and Fasting is a step to more into a deeper, intimate relationship. The fruit of it allows God to use you in an even more amazing way!
